Worldwide, WhatsApp is arguably the most popular messaging application. Most smartphone users depend on it for text, photo, audio and video messaging and free calls, especially when staying in touch with loved ones who don’t live in the same country. WhatsApp messenger has many useful features and provides updates to keep up with the ongoing evolution of the internet and smartphones. It is available for nearly all operating systems (OS) of the most widely used devices. One of the most prominent OS is Android, which is used in most of today’s best devices, such as Samsung, Nokia, HTC, LG, Sony, and much more.

Downloading WhatsApp messenger for Android:

You can find the WhatsApp messenger application in the Google Play Store. You can type the name of the application in the search box, and when a list of applications appears, tap on the WhatsApp messenger icon and choose “Download”. Wait for the download to be complete then start the application.

When your phone asks you for permissions to install, tap “Next” until you see the “Install” button, and then tap “Install”.

Wait for the installation to be completed, and then choose “Done” or “Open”, depending on your device. Now, the installation is complete and you will find the WhatsApp icon on your smartphone’s desktop.

WhatsApp Activation:                                    

After completing the installation, open the application and choose “Agree and Continue”.

To verify your account, you will have to choose your country, enter your mobile phone number and make sure to be within the coverage area so you can receive the verification code.

You can choose to get the verification code via SMS message or a call. Sometimes sending an SMS is not possible, so you can choose to receive a call to get the code. After entering the verification code, installation is successfully completed.

Using WhatsApp:

Choose a profile photo – this photo will be seen in your conversations with your friends on WhatsApp. Choose a name and remember that your friends will see this name when they get a notification of your message.

WhatsApp will automatically add all your friends who are using it by searching through your phone’s contact list, so you don’t need to add them manually. You can block any of the contacts later if you don’t want them to be able to contact you, and you can unblock anyone whenever you want.

WhatsApp is being updated every now and then, sometimes new features are added to make it more practical and easy to communicate with others.

WhatsApp Settings:

Profile: this is where you can change your photo, name and status. This is public information that others can see about you.

Account: here you can deactivate your account. If you change your phone number, you can change it here so you don’t lose your conversations.

Chats and calls: here you can change the background (wallpaper) of the chat, turn on or off saving the images and videos you receive to your phone’s media gallery, backup your chats, choose to auto download the media you receive using wi-fi or cellular network. There is an option to make the data used during a WhatsApp  voice call lower.

WhatsApp Chat:

Tap on the name of the person you would like to send a message to, and the conversation page will open. You can type your message or choose an emoticon/emoji and tap send. One check mark means your message is sent, two marks means it is delivered, and when they turn blue, it means the message has been read.

You can record an audio message by pressing and holding the microphone icon on the right to the typing box. If you lift your finger off, the message will be sent. If you swipe your finger to the left the recording will be deleted.

To share a file, tap the attachment icon on top of the screen. You can share an image, a video, an audio file, a contact details and your location.

On the top of the screen, there is a call icon, which you can tap on to make a free WhatsApp voice call.

In the right-hand corner of the screen, there is a “…” icon; if you tap on it, a list will appear where you can see your friend’s info, see all the media you shared in this conversation, and change the wallpaper of the chat.

You can delete, copy, forward, and star any message in the chat by tapping on it.
